Gustav Adolfs torg
Gustav 2 Adolf statue was the first memory statue that was built in Gothenburg, it was on the initiative of a man in the year 1845 and the money came from subscription of some sort.
It was made in Munchen but during the voyage here, the ship that carried the statue was shiprecked close to "Helgoland", and they demanded a very high price because they took it ashore and for to return it to Sweden.
So they ordered a new statue over Gustav 2 Adolf.
Since "Helgoländarna" didn't need the statue they sold it to a lower price to Bremen.
The Gustav 2 Adolf statue here in Gothenburg was revealed 18 of november the year 1854.
That day was a day of celebrations for the city's inhabitants. Every ship in the harbour had their flag inthe top!
the Crownprince of the day came a day early as did the artist that made it all possible and celebrated the big event with the people.
During the day of celebrations the "torget" was filled with people and in the middle there was "Västgöta regemente" crownprince delivered its new "fanor" during it there was 32 canonballs salut after a (speach "korum" was held)
At noon the bells from Domkyrkan(a church) rang .
Hästbacken
This place was named "Hästbacken" because of the horse"markets" that was held there.
Now it is called Kungsgatan, it is part of Kungsgatan.
